About Us

Finding Inspiration in Every Turn

Carla Miles, Founder

In 1995, Carla Miles set out to find a meaningful cause—something that would truly make a difference. She soon discovered that the Bethune County Parks and Recreation Program in Wimauma, Florida, had only five enrolled children. The $50 weekly fee made it unattainable for most local families. Determined to change this, Carla spent five years tirelessly advocating, reaching out to local businesses, organizations, and individuals to raise funds that would allow Wimauma’s children to participate in the after-school program.

As she forged a deep connection with the Bethune Park After-School Program, Carla uncovered a broader set of needs: school supplies, food, housing, medical and dental care, clothing, shoes, and counseling. Whatever the challenge, she sought solutions.

In 2000, a new chapter began. The Hope Fund for Children was born with a simple yet powerful mission: to uplift young lives through mentorship, education, and enrichment.

Today, more than 50 volunteers dedicate an hour each week to guiding a child. They mentor, tutor, read, help with homework, and offer physical education through  Kids Marathon.

Now operating at the RCMA Wimauma Community Academy, the program provides resources that extend far beyond the classroom. Thanks to generous fundraising and donations, the Hope Fund equips students with learning games, field trips, holiday celebrations, and awards for the Kids Marathon. Most importantly, it offers scholarships, ensuring that any child who has participated in the program has an opportunity to pursue higher education or trade school.

Carla Miles found her calling, and hope became her guiding force, filling her heart with purpose and her journey with love.

"When you help the kids, you will affect an entire generation." — Carla Miles

Our Vision

Our vision is to eliminate the educational, social, and cultural obstacles that may hinder an at-risk child from realizing their full potential. This involves fostering trust between adults and children, dedicating time to each child, and creating a community that acts as both a haven and a dependable resource.

We provide a secure and supportive environment through structured and supervised after-school programs, mentoring, tutoring, and reading initiatives, equipping children with essential life skills and strategies to enhance their academic, social, and behavioral outcomes.

Our Mission

Our mission is to empower at-risk children to lead improved lives through education and enrichment activities while ensuring they have a safe and supportive environment.
